An Angry Man Rants

You noe, people always say that i'm a "kantang"(potato) cos i always listen to english music and almost no chinese music at all. Well to be honest i have tried, very hard actually, but i just don't really like most chinese music.

Well the thing is, i actually grew up listening to chinese music. Well yeps, those were the good ol days of the early 90s. I actually used to listen to the "xiao hu dui"(little tigers) and even Aaran Kwok/Guo Fu Chen...

Then in the later part of pri sch when i started to buy cassette tapes(i wonder if kids now adays noe what that actually is) i slowly discovered english music.... Vanilla Ice, Boys II Men, Mariah Carey, Meatloaf, Guns&Roses, Ace of Base..... well from that point my taste of music was pretty much going down the ang moh path liao....

The thing about chinese music is that..... well..... They all sound the same. Pls don't dispute me on this. The fact that there are like a few thousand chinese songs that have the same guitar chord progression of C G Am Em F G C G says something doesn't it? They all have the same buble gummy pop feel to them.....

Well admittedly english music also has its own cookie cutter industry. There must be like millions of crappy products from this industry... but off the top of my head.... ALL the idols show winners, Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, pretty much all the boybands, Hillary Duff, Lindsay Lohan..... well you get my point.....

But the thing is the US and UK music industry is slightly more forgiving, which allows more independent/alternative music artists to get their music out. Many famous current bands were all almost uknown initially. Keane, Coldplay, Dashboard Confessional, The Strokes all used to be "underground" bands. Of cos things are very different now....

But the Mando-pop and Canto-pop industry is like some kind of relentless packaging industry.... its like u hear about new artistes every other day. SHE, TWINS, even lamer names like 2MORO.... and its like all the film actors/actresses seem to double up as singers......

Of cos there are relatively good chinese musicians(i say musicians cos these people actually play their own instruments and/or write most of their own material.) For example Beyond, Jay Chou and maybe even "Wu Yue Tian"(Mayday).

So the things is..... well i just don't really like most chinese music. I guess its nice and relaxing to listen to sometimes, but in the long run.... i'll prob go crazy 1st... i mean admit it... most of these "Artistes" are nothing more then glorified Karaoke singers. They don't write their own music or play their own instruments. All they do is dance and lip sync....

Hoo.............................. well but anyway boating was really fun man.... as you can see from the fotos the Som posted.... maybe i can invest in one of these babies next time man....

Haha ok i guess thats dreaming a bit too far and too much.... well but to be honest, this boating course seems to have revived an interest in the sea for me. I guess that comes with growing up next to the sea.....

Well maybe next time in the future, if i dont get married by the time i finish my bond with MOH... i'll go sign up to be a doctor for some petroleom company and work on board one of those huge oil tankers and sail the seven seas... Arrrghh... shiver me timbers.....

Sailing the seven seas sure beats going back to an empty home.....
